erupts in reno. the rush to get many to safety as firefighters battle those flames. we want san franciscans to walk away from this debate, really understanding who these people are. candidates vying for mayor of san francisco take center stage for the first time. the hot topics they are expected to address as the city by the bay looks to move forward. this is today in the bay thanks so much for joining us on this wednesday morning. i'm kris sanchez, i'm here for marcus washington. good to have you, chris. i'm laura garcia. we'll check in with mike for that morning commute in just

a little bit. but cynthia is in for kerry this morning as well. bringing the sunshine. yeah, bringing the sunshine. soon kerry will be back with lots of weather knowledge from the weather conference she's at. we miss her. hey, kerry, 63, right now in san jose. off to a mild start there after a very warm tuesday, we're bringing temperatures down a little bit around the bay area for today. san francisco clear start 54 degrees. humidity recovering well in the overnight hours and we go up to the north bay. gorgeous view. over 101 in san rafael. also dropping down those temperatures overnight. we're starting off at 50 degrees this morning, so what are your weather headlines? what are we walking through in my full forecast? in a couple of minutes it will be a slightly cooler day. emphasis on the slightly. we are going to ditch those triple digit temperatures go 60s coast 80s inland a few upper 80s on the map that i'll show you. and we still got to be vigilant for that elevated fire danger through our hills and our valleys. we'll talk about fire sources, the potential there and the cooling that's ahead for the weekend, with more wind and a few low clouds. we'll talk about that. but, mike, you're going to

talk about a crash on the bay bridge what's happening? yeah, i'm trying to get some cues as to what's happening. the bay bridge backup, of course, at the toll plaza that continues. as i looked from our emeryville camera, the haze was too much for us to see. any progress or changes, but the sensors do show it's jammed up from the toll plaza all the way to treasure island, where reports of one lane are blocked. but a crew on scene may be clearing this crash. there are some injuries reported, though, so this may be complicated. we're going to continue to track that. so far, the backup not even reaching the berkeley curve, just from the overcrossing, the 880 overcrossing onto the span itself. there's a disabled vehicle outside the caldecott tunnel, and that is eastbound out counter to your commute. not presenting any slowing on the sensors. and the south bay does show this northbound 101 slowing typical area, but extends now past the airport, so that may mean more volume heading in towards san mateo, santa clara. we'll continue to track this back to you. all right. thank you very much, mike. now to the latest in the fire burning in nevada. it started last night near reno. it's happening in the city of sparks behind a high school there. firefighters have

been battling those flames throughout the night. and so far, the fire has only burned 35 acres. but again, very close to a high school. this is actually also the second fire in that area. within 24 hours. it came at the same time where the we were winding down, another large fire in the area. so we had to flex some resources from that fire to this fire. officials are asking people to stay out of that area, and they are also investigating what caused that fire. but closer to home, all lanes are back open along 101 in morgan hill. the northbound lanes there, the. this is all following a deadly crash involving several vehicles a little after 9:00 last night happened near cochrane road, northbound lanes in morgan hill. the chp says a big rig, pickup truck and a motorcycle were involved. it's unclear what led up to the crash. while turning now to decision 2024 and the opening salvo of mayoral debates in san francisco. for the first

time, all five candidates will debate to a sold out crowd today in the bay's ginger conejero saab is live in san francisco and ginger, a lot of people have been waiting for this event, especially since another one was canceled just a few weeks ago. that's right chris, that debate was supposed to be the first one of this mayoral debate season. if you will call it. but that was canceled. which leads to tonight being the hottest local political ticket in town. i think it represents a moment that we're in as a city where the elections here, she's upon us, folks are showing up and there's a lot of work to do. and so there's a sense of being woken up and of activity and of proximity right now to the election that i haven't felt in a while. now, that was manny uchitelle of manny's sf. he is one of the co-presenters of tonight's debate, along with new york times, san francisco bureau chief heather knight, who will moderate the debate between

incumbent mayor london breed. daniel lurie, supervisor asha sapphire, mark farrell and supervisor aaron peskin. now, i'm told the format will include an opening statement from each of the candidates, issue based questions, and a lightning round before closing statements. now, chris, this will be significant as it's the first debate of the season and it can really set the tone for the candidates moving forward. so we're just happy to know that they're all going to be there answering those questions. because as voters, you know, that's how we help to inform our decisions. but what are the issues and the tough questions? do you think they'll mostly be facing? well, when i spoke to manny, he did say that they did not poll the guests who are coming to find out which of the issues are most important to them. but the big hope, he says, is to really get to all of the issues that are important to voters. we can expect there to be talks about economic recovery. mayor london breed has really been criticized about the state of downtown, of businesses leaving san francisco. and so she's talked about her plans to

revitalize that area and we can expect more of that later tonight. now, homelessness, as we all know, is also a huge issue in the city. supervisor aaron peskin has been outspoken about his support of supervisor drug or supervised injection sites. i should say. now, mark farrell has also laid out his plans for affordable housing in san francisco, and daniel lurie has kind of positioned himself as someone that's coming and looking from the outside to the insiders of san francisco politics, he's talked about solutions based on his experience with his nonprofit supervisor, asha sapphire has also criticized the mayor's leadership and handling of the city's budget. we can possibly hear more of that from him tonight, but as we've seen in past debates, the first one matters because it can steer endorsem*nts. it can steer, you know, kind of set the tone for how how things go this early on. and so you can imagine that a lot of eyes will be eyes and ears will be tuned in the event

tonight, the in-person tickets are already sold out. but if you are interested, people who are watching you can still buy virtual tickets online. so do check that out. all right. well, thank you very much ginger. also just super interesting when you have an incumbent in that mix as well. thank you. yeah yeah. 606 right now new overnight a new report says both israel and palestinian forces committed war crimes in the first several months of the conflict in gaza. and today in the bay's alice barr joins us live from washington to break down some of these findings for us, as well as israel's response. alice good morning, laura. both sides of the war in gaza not exempt from these accusations. un backed experts say that both israeli forces and palestinian militants engaged in sexual and gender based violence, in addition to those alleged war crimes. the independent experts, human rights experts say israel also committed crimes against

humanity following the october 7th hamas attack. it says israeli forces forced starvation, committed murder or willful killings and engaged in intentional attacks on civilians. israel is refusing to cooperate with the group, accusing it of bias, and is rejecting the allegations. the report also says hamas and other armed palestinian groups forced performed deliberate killings and mistreated civilians and took hostages over that same time period. toward the end of last year, there findings come despite the palestinian group's denials that it committed sexual violence against israeli women. meanwhile, hezbollah is taking responsibility for a massive barrage of rockets from lebanon into to northern israel overnight. you're looking at video shared by the israeli foreign ministry on ex israeli defense forces say the launch included an estimated 160 missiles and hezbollah says the

move was in retaliation for an israeli airstrike that killed a senior commander in the iran backed militant group yesterday. laura, well, in fact, yesterday we were talking about the us backed proposal for a cease fire. any new developments there? yeah so there has been a response from hamas, and the white house says that it is evaluating that response. we've heard from the foreign ministries of qatar and egypt, who have been the main mediators alongside the us. they say they have received hamas's response and that mediators are now going over it. hamas does want some changes from the proposal that is on the table, and has been expressing doubt over whether israel would actually implement its terms. specifically, provisions for an eventual permanent end to the fighting and israeli forces full withdrawal from gaza in exchange for the release of hostages. and while the hamas response, of course, falls short of the

outright acceptance that the u.s. that the biden administration has been pushing for, there are hopeful signs the negotiations can continue and perhaps wind up where everyone has been waiting for. right, exactly. for quite some time, all right. alice barr, a lot to cover there. thank you for the latest from washington 809 now. and a heads up, if you are traveling to the north bay over the next few days, several agencies will be conducting prescribed burns today through friday. take a look at the map here. we'll show you where crews are focusing on 70 acres of grass. these prescribed burns are planned and coordinated with the northern sonoma county air pollution control district. in order to minimize smoke impact on surrounding communities. joining us now, cinthia pimentel, we know that prescribed burns are certainly aimed at reducing fire danger. they're trying to take some preventative steps, something we've really seen them prepare for the last few weeks. yeah. and as we mentioned, they're trying to control our air quality. right. keep it at a healthy level. the grasses are

extremely prone to that fire risk. we've had really healthy winters a lot of rainfall. but now it's kind of time to take it back and clear all of that grass around the bay area. that makes our risk slightly higher. brush and trees still pretty elevated and moderate around the bay area we don't get into that dense forest until we start to move into parts of northern and eastern california. so definitely help crews out there move out of the way, and they'll probably ask you to not call 911. if you see that smoke, just remain vigilant. how can we all help prevent wildfires? of course it is on all of us to create that defensible space around your home, even around your campground. make sure that you're keeping a lot of water available. i don't, and we have to say this avoid throwing your cigarets on the roadways. that could spark up wildfires as well. there's always a trash can nearby. just save it for a couple more minutes. don't drive on that dry grass you want to be careful of how you're moving your stuff around with those tow chains. that can also spark up things on the concrete and eventually make it pass to that

very dry grass. it's summertime. i want you to enjoy those barbecues and all that family time on those barbecues, but you have to use them on a paved surface to avoid anything, of course, spreading and causing a major wildfire. so i'll be back with more on these tips. and of course, our temperatures, our microclimate forecast for the day. but mike is helping you get around with some cheaper gas prices. where are they? you know what? we have two options for you in livermore. two of the best three prices in the state, 374 is the price point. we're naming foxy gasoline on old first street today. over there in the tri valley, we're looking at san jose's star gas on hillsdale avenue. best in the south bay is over four bucks for 25 at that particular location. and in the north bay, mill valley has marin county's best of 443 at arco on redwood highway, so prices are moving down, though i do see that around the bay. all these reports coming in from you gasbuddy.com on the roadways, we have a pretty smooth, easy drive developing except for one very important spot the bay bridge

stock market indices hit a new record again. apple hit new records as well. we're only one day away from the moment of truth for tesla, and that mega mega bonus for elon musk. now he's hinted he'll walk if he doesn't get it. that happens tomorrow. the key thing actually is not on our board today. it's inflation data and the fed's interest rate decision. the fed

will announce its decision on interest rates around 11 a.m. this morning. and as always, we're more interested in what they say than what they do because we expect them to keep interest rates where they are. but they may also react to those inflation numbers. the consumer price index, which just crossed their desks, and ours about 45 minutes ago. it shows prices in aggregate in aggregate, have not moved in the past month. that's great news month to month, no inflation. we're paying 3.3% more now than this time last year. you know how meme stocks have been running up the price of gamestop? well, gamestop, the company is going to take advantage of it, printing up 75 million new shares of itself. and selling them to those hungry fans to the tune of $2 billion. because why not? and a really interesting forecast out of the us energy information administration predicting thanks to record american production, the world will soon more pump

more oil than it needs a surplus. opec has already factored in cuts, but america is pumping a record amount of oil. we learned back in march. the united states produces more crude oil than any nation at any time in history. to borrow a phrase. we are drilling baby drilling redwood cities electronic arts meantime, says 40 niner christian mccaffrey will be on the cover of the next version of its madden football game. the company says mccaffrey's video game persona made 450 million touchdowns last year in the video game. now in real life, i think it was like 21. but yeah, that still makes him the offensive player of the year. now nobody can mention madden without mentioning the madden curse, which is this. you know, the statistically if you're on the cover of madden you have a lousy season. we'll see. but you get a target on your back is really now everybody's like oh this guy right. right. but here's a question. so is that a real image of christian mccaffrey or

is it the image from the game. is it like a digital image? well, these days you can't tell you what an excellent question. i will go look i know they could make us look like we play football too right. all right. everybody's got a filter these days. yeah. thank goodness some days. 618 right now copper wire thieves continue to make their presence known in southern california, this time targeting the sixth street bridge in los angeles. thieves are stripping electrical boxes, frequently leaving parts of the structure in the dark. neighbors say the problem has been persisting over the past several months now. earlier this year, l.a. city leaders called to create a task force to fight ongoing copper theft in the city. they say the problem is costing taxpayers millions of dollars. happening today, san francisco is looking for feedback on its new plans to revamp powell street. we talked about this yesterday. there's a new design that aims to brighten up and upgrade that three block stretch where powell meets market in order to create

bustling public space filled with storefronts. they also want to upgrade the sidewalks, maybe make them wider, and there will also be a golden lantern suspended from the air above the cable car turntable. now, the full design will be shown tonight at an open house from 4 to 7 p.m. at 111 powell street. their public can give you can give your feedback on the design. the project is expected to cost between 20 and $30 million. so i'm sure folks will have something to say about that too. like the lights, not about the not enough. i don't know if we like the bills. all right. turning this morning, july 4th, is not going to be quite the same. the world's most famous hot dog eating competition eating competitor just got kicked out of one of the biggest contests. come on, you know who we're talking about. san jose native joey chestnut. he's out over some serious beef here. nathan's holds a lot of hot dog eating competition every year. 4th of july. everybody watches it. joey chestnut is always the winner. 16 times. in fact, major

league eating says the world champ can't take part in the annual contest because of a new deal that he signed with redwood city based vegan meat maker impossible foods. nathan says chestnut can return when he's not representing a rival brand. in the meantime, impossible foods says the company supports joey chestnut in any competition he chooses. as the rivals are going head to head, it's the fans that seem to be missing out. it's like the superstar of the whole contest, so like if you lose him, that's a pretty big deal. this is a new day and a lot of people are moving toward plant based things. if they're paying him, that's fine. i don't have a problem with it. now joey chestnut took to x, saying he's sad he can't compete and wanted to set the record straight. he wrote in part, quote, i do not have a contract with emily that's major league eating or nathan's, and they are looking to change the rules from past years as it relates to other partners i can work with.

this is apparently the basis of which i'm being banned. so the hot dog saga continues. maybe, maybe this is your chance, mike. oh yeah. oh yeah, i should, i should if i've been training for a while. yeah, as much as i possibly can. yeah yeah. oh my goodness. step it up. maybe we'll go pro lead. well, if there's a vegan one you could join that one i don't know i, i don't know it just grosses you out watching that. how about we just stick to looking at the beautiful sunny skies of the bay area avoid the hot dog mess at this moment. right now, it's our typical bay area summer pattern. you go out the door in petaluma with a jacket, you ditch it by the end of the day. as we wake up at 48 there this morning, we're doing some 60s through dublin and san jose and a stunning view over san francisco at 53 this morning. our models are painting some of those clouds returning by the mid morning hours through the san mateo coastline, down into santa cruz. you might even have to use those windshield wipers on your car for just a few moments, as

some of that could produce some drizzle out there. the rest of the afternoon should also fill in with a few more of those clouds stretching inland, providing us with our natural ac and cooling things down for our inland valley. so for today, we're going to get rid of those 90s, and triple digit temperatures only go up to about 87 in santa rosa, 86 in fairfield, a few low 80s through dublin and san jose and the santa clara valley. immediate bay will do 64 in san francisco and 75 in hayward. so overall, a stunning day to get us through this workweek here. and as we advance forward through the rest of the day, let me show you what's happening in lafayette. we're going to cool things down, actually, just a little bit as we go on into our thursday, their low 70s. that's a nice, comfortable day and giving you through the rest of the weekend. we're looking at a few systems moving around california that could bring in a little bit more wind and a little bit more cloud cover. that's why we'll stay pretty stable through the weekend and then gradually warm things up into the 80s again. next week. but overall, it's goodbye to that horrible heat. san francisco should be nice and

now, at 630, a week after flames destroyed a housing project under construction in redwood city, neighbors are still feeling the impact. we'll take you live back out to the scene with one thing investigators are now asking for the public's help with, plus the race for san francisco mayor heats up all five candidates set to share the stage and the spotlight tonight. the new numbers showing who's leading months ahead of the

election and the bay area cooling down after another hot day, but not by too much. we're tracking just how warm it's going to get. this is today in the bay and a very good morning to you. thanks for joining us. i'm laura garcia. hey there laura i'm kris sanchez i'm here for marcus washington. and we want to get a look at that forecast because it provides a little bit of relief today a little bit. there was just a weak system that was passing through the bay area overnight and into this morning. that's cooling things down. but if we take a look at our current temperatures, vacaville still had a slightly warm night. 67 degrees there right now, 64 over on in dublin, 63 in san jose. we're starting our day with mid to upper 50s around the immediate bay through oakland, and a bit of a cooler start in santa rosa and sonoma at 51 apiece. overall, yes, it won't be as hot as yesterday. it will still be fairly warm in our inland valleys, 70s to some upper 80s, but the immediate bay should see some of that cloud

cover and our natural ac return later on this afternoon. 60s and 70s. there mike, what's the good news on the bay bridge? it's moving. this is look, the incline. it was almost completely stopped. they cleared the incident on the span itself. you can see at the top of the screen traffic is moving, but look moved down about halfway there, a couple of tow trucks, they're blocking at least the service area. distraction at the bottom of the screen. another tow truck. someone else may have run out of gas on the way over there. they have been helped out. now that tow truck is clearing from the area. so we're watching a lot of activity getting over from oakland and still very slow coming off of northbound 880 approaching the area. also coming into the maze for westbound 580. so those are the areas with the slowing. everything else looks pretty standard except for santa clara. a little extra slow there, but it's getting back to normal. back to you. thank you very much, mike. 633 this morning, a fire department on the peninsula is asking for your help to try to determine the cause of a massive fire which destroyed most of a large, affordable housing project today in the bay's bob redell joins us live from the scene in redwood city.

and, bob, investigators are looking for something very specific from the public. correct. chris and laura, the menlo park fire protection district is asking for anyone who might have photos or videos of the early stages of this fire that burned down a large chunk of this affordable housing project that was under construction here at 2700 middlefield road in redwood city. the fire is reported around 1015 in the morning on june 3rd, which was two mondays ago. a woman who lives next door to the housing project took this photo about 15 minutes after the fire started, which shows smoke coming out of the building. it's not clear if this photo will be helpful in the investigation, but we bring it up because the man in the photo is the woman's husband, james smith, who used a hose to keep the fire from spreading to his neighborhood. he and his family have since evacuated their home because of the lingering smell of smoke. we haven't come back yet because my wife and son have asthma. they come in, their chest feels tight. it's like, all right,

we're just going to have to wait until they clean the house. and i had to go to the va hospital for smoke inhalation, you know, on top of that, i was looking at the ring camera. it was kind of hard to watch because my wife was just in this panic. the menlo park firefighters association posted on social media yesterday. again, a request asking for the public's help with any photos or videos that show the building as the fire was starting or just after it started reporting live here in redwood city. bob redell today in the bay. all right. hopefully they can come up with some answers. thanks, bob. all right. 635 now and two decision 2024 and the san francisco mayoral race tonight. all five candidates will take part in a debate that starts at 630 at the sidney goldstein theater. manny's is partnering with city arts and lectures to host that debate. london breed, mark farrell, daniel lurie, aaron peskin and asha safai are all taking part and in the most recent poll, mayor london breed was leading in that race.

however, a lot of voters say they haven't made their minds up yet, meaning a lot of things could change between now and november. meantime, californians will get a chance to vote in november to reform a long time proposition related to drug charges. prop 47, passed ten years ago, aiming to reduce jail population by loosening the penalties around drug and theft crimes. however critics say this has emboldened thieves. a bipartisan group called californians for californians for safer communities collected signatures in support of an amendment to reform prop 47. now, voters will get a chance to vote on that reform in november. and if it passes, it would eliminate the $950,000 threshold for third theft or drug possession charges. it would also increase jail time for repeat offenders of theft and organized retail theft. well, turning to the latest on a fire burning in nevada started last

night near reno. it's happening in sparks behind a local high school. firefighters have been battling the flames throughout the night, so far, the fire has burned 35 acres, but this is actually the second fire in this area within 24 hours. officials are asking people to stay out of that area, not yet clear what started the fire. i mean, you might be wondering, sparks, nevada, kind of far away, but we all share resources during fire seasons. so it is concerning. yeah. and the temperatures there yesterday got into the upper 90s. of course, our fire, what sparks, fires, grasses and shrubs and everything. it's running pretty critically high after a wet winter. we have to clear those things out. of course, the things that we look at when it comes to the current fire conditions is the temperature, the humidity and the wind speeds. right now they're off to a mild morning, but you can just imagine all of the suits and the gear that the fire crews have to work with. so just give them some space to work this out. our humidity levels are also critically low

at about 46, and we'll keep on watching that throughout the day. as their high goes today for 96 wind speeds. also going to start to increase. so definitely worth keeping an eye on this. if you have any family or friends out there in the reno, nevada area back here in the bay area, let's talk about fremont. heading to work middle of the week. yes, it is a little bit of a light sweater weather throughout the morning 60s, but then by the mid morning hours we climb up into the 70s, mild, mild throughout the morning there before we start a cooling trend, we'll talk about that, but mike, what's going on on the roadways this morning? continued improvement of the bay bridge. we now see the entire area foreground all the way up the incline. still some flashing lights. not impeding the traffic, just a bit of a distraction. and then things really clear. look at that. heading over toward treasure island westbound will continue to have to recover as the volume continues to build. coming into the area north. 880 note before you get to the overcrossing, even if you're continuing up through berkeley, it's slow on the approach because of that backup that had formed. same

and as we go throughout our mid-morning hours, 70 by the mid morning. so if you get those walks in early, if this is too much for you as we go on into the afternoon, it won't be as hot as yesterday. we'll climb up into the 80s and the east bay, and we'll talk about some further cooling in the seven-day forecast coming up. now we're talking about further improvement across the bay bridge. that distraction from the flashing lights. now gone from the incline. look at that. a nice steady flow. but we still have to get through the backup approaching the maze. and in the south bay just a note for greenline riders between fruitdale and san fernando stations, you have to use a bus bridge through the rest of the month. they're doing work on the green line now. thank you mike. today is going to be an emotional day for a lot of families in newtown, connecticut. that is because the sandy hook shooting survivors are graduating. so this year the graduation will be mixed. emotions because 20 of their classmates should have been there. about 60 of the 330 kids graduating will be carrying the emotional burden that comes with

having survived one of the deadliest shootings in u.s. history, 20 of their fellow first graders and six educators were killed at sandy hook elementary school on december 14th, 2012. the students say that they hope that moving on to the next chapters of their life will give them an opportunity for some sort of fresh start going into graduation. we all have very mixed emotions trying to be excited for ourselves and this accomplishment that we've worked so hard for, but also those who aren't able to share it with us, who should have been able to the what ifs kind of spoil a lot of precious moments, you know, just because you always remember that they're not there, it's unbelievable. you have to live through that. the victims will be honored during the graduation ceremony, but we don't have any specific details at this point. it is quickly approaching quarter to seven. president joe biden spent the night in his family home in delaware with his son, hunter.

as we have reported, scott hunter biden found guilty of several felony charges regarding a gun and drug use. that's right. and documentation as well. the president has said all along he remains by his son's side emotionally. he's been very careful to stay out of the legal process. but talks often about his emotional love and support for his son. the president and first lady left the white house yesterday, returned to wilmington just hours after a jury found hunter biden guilty of three felony charges tied to briefly possessing a gun while he was addicted to drugs back in 2018 and lying about it on a form. ironically, his father had a speech about guns at nearly the very same moment. my predecessor told the nra convention recently he's proud. that, quote, i did nothing on guns when i was president, and by doing nothing, he made the situation considerably worse. now here's the president greeting his son after the

verdict and his daughter in law and granddaughter as well. nbc news talked to one of the jurors right after the verdict, who said politics had no place in the courtroom for us. it was not politically motivated. so, politics never played in anything that we said in the jury room. and as we were deliberating, of course, we spent the first five days last week together and, and yesterday and today, and we were we were not allowed to talk about any of the case until the trial was over. now that juror, juror number ten also spoke about a possible sentence, though, of course, that's up to the judge. honestly, i don't think putting hunter in jail is going to help. help any, i hope that i hope

that hunter is clean. and i hope that his sobriety is going well, and i hope it continues to go well. and so therefore i, you know, that's why i say, you know, jail is not going to help you now, from delaware, the president will travel to italy for the g7 conference, used to be the g8 conference until they kicked russia out. the us house could vote as soon as today to find u.s. attorney general merrick garland in contempt of congress. some republicans want garland. give them audio recordings of an interview of president biden conducted by the special counsel, the justice department has already given those lawmakers a transcript of the same audio and says that's enough. the justice department says biden's critics haven't given them a good reason why they need audio if they already know what was said, there is a suspicion it will only be used for political purposes. now, if the house finds garland in

contempt, a criminal recommendation goes to the justice department, which garland runs. two other ags have been found in contempt in american history one a republican, one a democrat, and neither time were either of them prosecuted. laura. all right. thank you very much, scott. san francisco is now a sanctuary city for transgender people. the board of supervisors approved the new resolution last night. supervisor rafael mandelman introduced that resolution. although it's mostly symbolic, it will help provide safety for members of the trans community and protect those providing gender affirming care. the resolution goes into effect immediately. it comes as some conservative states are limiting transgender rights. supervisor mandelman shared his message for those who may be struggling in other states. we just wanted to send out a little beacon in this pride month, to folks in those places that, you know, there are there are people here who care about you, who see you and who

will support you if you make your way here. california or san francisco, rather, is the third california city to make the declaration behind west hollywood and sacramento. and we are celebrating pride month. here we are shining a light on some of the people who have contributed to the bay area's vibrant lgbtq community. for pride month, san francisco's marsh theater is hosting a pair of one woman plays talking about the lesbian experience. marco gomez's performance is a silly take on a lesbian cruise ship. a while terry bohm's piece is about the secret romance between first lady eleanor roosevelt and journalist lorena hickok. while the themes may be different, the message of the performers is not. for one thing, it's part of lesbian history and we don't have enough of that. almost all of that is doesn't exist, has never been. there's no evidence of it. how? coming up tonight at five nbc, bay area's joe rosato jr will bring us into the marsh theater to give us a glimpse

start our morning off on a bit of a cooler note. much more refreshing as we get our day started, let's come down and take a look at this beautiful sunrise over san jose. 63 degrees there. we'll do some low 60s through walnut creek, also giving a little bit of a breeze there to help cool us. after a very toasty tuesday yesterday, san francisco stunning skies there over the city 54 and some cooler 50s up into the north bay. you get ready for the summer pattern, where you bring a sweater throughout the morning and then completely put it aside into the afternoon 80s up there for the north bay 73 in napa, we'll do 84 in concord, 85 in livermore, bringing in about ten degrees cooler down into san jose, los gatos at some low 80s, 60s and 70s bay shore. that will provide a little bit more of that cloud cover into this evening. help cool things down even further. another area that we're watching that will help cool things down, of course, are those wind speeds. and of course they cool things down. but we have to be vigilant when it comes to any of those wildfires,

sparking. we could be looking at them traveling very quickly, especially for our east bay valleys and through the altamont pass, where it can go up to 25, maybe 30 miles an hour. so just be careful with that there. i mentioned before that we're going into a bit of a cooling pattern. san jose over the next couple of days. today will be in the 80s. tomorrow we drop it down just hovering into those low 80s and continuing through the weekend. we're looking at a pattern just to our north, bringing some rain to the pacific northwest, and that would bring in a little bit more cloud cover for the bay area. help cool things down. overall, we're going to stay pretty stable though, so not too hot, not too cold either. so overall enjoying the start to the summer that begins next week actually. and overall in the next couple of days. san francisco breezy. with that help of our natural ac, we'll keep things stable. 60s and 70s there for the weekend and our inland valleys mid 80s for some of the furthest spots. a slightly cooler for our thursday, but then the weekend, friday, saturday, sunday will stay in those 80s under plenty

of sunshine. mike, you're looking at some delays on the bay bridge are getting to the bay bridge still a little slow across the span, but the backup now continues here. there's the berkeley curve. look at that feeding in out of the maze also. so these avenues coming over toward the bay bridge which is behind me, the toll plaza full and slow because of the earlier issues on the span. but they have been cleared at treasure island. great recovery over the last five minutes. still slow coming into the maze though. the east shore freeway holding steady but a little more slowing through emeryville and the build. i think some folks may have chosen the richmond bridge instead of the bay bridge, but again, the bay bridge is clear. here's some timing. so getting across the span just a short time ago it was 30 minutes. so now much better drive once you get to the toll plaza san mateo bridge westbound, your commute is slowing down a bit for the volume, but eastbound heard about some debris. there was a brief full stop across the eastbound direction coming toward the camera lasted about five minutes, but they clearly must have been removed. the debris because traffic is now flowing again westbound, is actually not as bad as that time might look. so there's just a

jerry west, we don't know how he died, but he died at the age of 86. such a legacy. all right, so we go back to redwood city, where the investigators there are asking for your help to figure out what the cause of last week's fire was that destroyed most of a large housing development under construction. the menlo park fire protection district wants photos or videos that anyone might have captured of the early stages of the fire, which burned down most of a big chunk of an affordable housing project under construction on middlefield road. and we're also following a fire that is burning in nevada. it started last night near reno. it's happening in sparks near a high school. firefighters have been battling the flames throughout the night. so far, the fire has burned 35 acres. it is actually the second fire in the area within 24 hours. officials are asking people to stay out of that area. not clear what actually started that fire. they actually sent crews from
